What are the chances of having a baby with blue eyes?
I am a 25yrs old male and my mom has hazel eyes, and all of her family has hazel, green, multi-color, light green, etc and my grandpa has baby blue eyes. I have brown eyes because of my dad. If I marry my girlfriend who has blue eyes what are my chances of having a baby with blue eyes? Im just veyr curious...thank you!!!
Blue eyes are homozygous recessive, which means that in order for someone to have blue eyes 2 copies of the recessive gene have to present in the baby.
Brown eyes are either heterozygous or homozygous dominant. This means that for a person to have brown eyes they must have at least one copy of the gene for brown eyes and either another copy of the same gene from the other parent or have one copy or the gene for blue eyes.
The chances of having a child with blue eyes depends upon how the genes cross over during meiosis and your current genetic makeup.
My husband has brown eyes which are dominant and I have blue eyes. However, both of my children have blue eyes.This is due to the recombination of genes every time fertilization takes place and a zygote is produced.
I guess this is my long winded way of saying that it depends upon the process of genetic recombination.
