Do you think registering for a semi-formal china with no platinum/gold edge is a mistake?
I'm putting together a bridal registry, and am considering registering for a more informal pattern. It is raised porcelain, with no platinum edge. I think I may couple it with a silver charger so that I could dress up the plates if I desire. Has anyone not done formal china and regretted it? Does anyone regret registering for formal china?

There is a great deal to be said for dinnerware that can go through the microwave and the dishwasher. The best thing that can be said for it, is that then you might actually use it -- and perhaps revive a little the practice of offering hospitality over dinner. That would make the world a better place. Even better, you may revive the notion of treating yourself with enough respect to dine properly even when you don't have guests.
Of course, it is quite possible to cook your meals in cookware, and do the washing up by hand. I quite like the relaxing warmth of hot dishwater on my arthritic knuckles. It's as a hot wax dip at the spa. But I recognize the thought of hand dishwashing is unthinkable to many young women; and I can think of nothing sillier than expensive wedding china sitting unused because of its platinum edge.
You are making a sensible choice.
