Letting someone piggy back my wireless router?
One of my friends that lives in the building next to me asked me if he could piggy back off my wireless router. I download alot of stuff of the net such as movies and music, will I be more vulnerable if I let someone piggy back off my system?
You may be MORE vulnerable if your friend is using your wireless AP to view and download things that are considered illegal...all the fingers will point back at you.
To keep everyone else out, I would consider using the MAC address filtering feature built into most wireless routers. They will only allow the connection 'IF' the MAC address previously entered into the router setup, matches the MAC address of the network adapter trying to connect to it. Works like a charm!
Also, you could go in and set a time schedule for the piggy backer...Or just shut him down ..ie: you leave for the week-end, the piggy back is affecting your connection, etc.
It's your call...
Use protection,
your computer will thank you!
