What should I do after I draw a design on a surfboard and am planning to glass over it?
So I delaminated a huge section of my nose and fixed it in the best way I could. I wanted to add another base of fiberglass and resin, mostly resin, to make sure it was water tight. But then I got an idea to draw a design with a black permanent marker. So I did and it was epic and I let it dry. I applied a good amount of resin to glass over it and the permanent ink started bleeding. Im like OK, this could be cool...I come back 2 hours later and its a mess of crap and black and blue and purple ink mixed with resin.
Im considering sanding all of that off, and redoing a design. But what should I do?
Should I draw it and then add some finish too it, several layers maybe, then glass? If so then what should i use as finish and how? Or should I sand it, glass it then draw on top of everything and have my art be my final layer...not sure if that makes sense, the board will be used in surf. Or some other method?

You have a big problem. Unfortunately, unless you use resin compatible opaque inks, you will always have a bleeding problem. At this point if you sand your nose down again you will make it brittle and it could break off going through a wave. I fixed a similar cracked nose one time before I knew what I was doing and it broke off as I was paddling through a big wave, hitting me in the face. I think the best thing you can do now is just use regular enamel paint on the outside to cover the mess. It won't look that bad, doesn't weigh anything, and also won't impact the strength you have now. Take a look at repair chapter in my online book for additional information or drop me a note.
I have glassed and repaired boards since the late 1960s. What you have is a common problem.
