Down Collectible

Thursday, July 29th, 2010

Could someone help me estimate the value of two collectable coins I have?

I have a 1942 walking liberty half dollar and a 1945 american eagle half dollar. I have been wondering what their value would be today. They are not in perfect condition. They are just a little bit warn down, but they look pretty good. They are in a plastic container, which I have never opened.

For both coins:

If the rims defined and the motto In God We Trust is legible, ($5) Grade: G-4 (Good)

If the Motto is distinct and about half of the skirt lines on the left are clear, ($5) Grade: VG-8 (Very Good)

If all skirt lines are slightly visible, but worn in spots, ($6) Grade: F-12 (Fine)

If the skirt lines are sharp, including the leg area with only a little wear on the breast and right arm, ($7) Grade: VF-20 Very Fine

If All Skrit lines are bold, ($8) Grade: EF-40 (Extremely Fine)

If there is only a slight trace of wear on the coin ($12) Grade: AU-50 (About Uncerculated)

If there is no wear but light blemishes ($35-40) Grade: MS-60 (Mint State 60)

If there are very few contact marks or blemishes and has some luster to it. ($45-50) Grade: MS-63 (Mint State 63)

Most Coin Dealers will give you less than half there value.

www.gourleycoins.com will give you 85%-90% of the coins value, considering you provide shipping to deliver the coin.

On the Gourley Coins Home Page, they have a box titled "Sell or Trade." He usually gets back with you in less than 24 hours.
