Is it condescending for me to call a woman a girl in America?
If I were a woman, I would not want to be called a girl.
I am a man, and no one calls me "boy".
Do American women like to be called "girl"?
I will not say that women are girls. I just want to know if it is acceptable behavior towards women in America.
I am not African-American.
By default, refer to any grown woman as a woman, not a girl. "Girl" smacks of patronization, even if you don't mean it that way. It sounds as though you're talking down to the person.
It's one thing to say it to close friends, quite another to say it to everyone.
