Was the company Royal Doulton sold?

I was at an antique store and found a beatrix potter porcelain figurine i loved it . The lady at the counter told me it was $225 ( Australian dollars) she then told me Royal Doulton was sold to China. Im not sure if she was lying to make extra money on a sale or was telling the truth. Please help?

KPS is based in New York City.
