How much of a difference would you score if you played a round with the old wooden driver and 3 wood.?
Want to hold a fun tournament which players use old equipment just to see how much the game has change. Some say they would score the same others look a little worried.
There are many of these tournaments around the US, and that's usually one of the reasons they want to do it... to see how things have changed.
It really depends on the golfer. If s/he's a good golfer and can shape shots, handle half-swings, etc... they won't have too much trouble. Maybe an adjustment period, but they could figure it out. If they're the "hit it and go find it" type, they'll probably struggle. The newer clubs are made for forgiveness and to help get the ball airborne (check out old photos of guys like Tom Watson and Jack- they have a huge "reverse C" finish- THAT is how they got the ball airborne) so there'd be quite a shock to the system, especially if they started playing within the past decade.
But you are right- it can be a lot of fun, and definitely worth doing.
